MSR
Mortgage-servicing rights — the contractual right to service a closed loan in exchange for a servicing fee.
MSRs are an asset class with their own market. Originators retain or release MSRs at sale; servicing-released sales pay an SRP, while retained-servicing sales keep the MSR on the balance sheet.
